Connect ChatGPT

ChatGPT connects to Tenali as a remote MCP server, added as a custom app in developer mode. Setup differs from Claude in two ways: developer mode has to be switched on first, and on a workspace plan not everyone is allowed to do it.

Plan Requirements

• Business, Enterprise and Edu — full MCP support, including write actions, currently in beta.
• Pro — can connect MCP servers with read/fetch permissions. That's enough for Tenali, since every Tenali tool is read-only.
• Free and Go — not supported.

Who can turn developer mode on depends on your plan:

• Business — owners and admins only, and only for themselves. An admin can't enable it on behalf of an individual member.
• Enterprise and Edu — an admin grants access under Permissions & Roles → Connected Data, and each user who's been granted it then turns it on for themselves at Settings → Apps → Advanced Settings.

Either way, a plain member who hasn't been granted access can't add a custom app. Custom apps are also web only — they don't work in the ChatGPT mobile app.

On the Tenali side you need a plan that includes AI chat. There's no separate MCP add-on.

Add the Connector

   Copy your Tenali server URL

   In Tenali, open Settings → AI Assistants and click Copy next to the server URL. It's https://api.tenali.ai/api/mcp.

   Turn on developer mode

   A workspace admin enables it in Workspace Settings → Permissions & Roles → Connected Data. On Enterprise and Edu, an enabled user then switches it on for themselves under Settings → Apps → Advanced Settings — some accounts show this toggle under Settings → Security and login instead. Each person enables it individually; it isn't applied workspace-wide.

   Add the MCP server

   Open Settings → Plugins, add a developer-mode app, and paste the Tenali server URL.

   Choose OAuth and sign in

   When ChatGPT asks how to authenticate, pick OAuth. Sign in with your Tenali account, review the permissions and click Allow access.

   Enable it in your chat and confirm

   Turn the app on for your conversation, then ask "List my recent Tenali meetings." If your meetings come back, it's working — and the connection appears in Tenali under Settings → AI Assistants.

Enabling the Connector per Conversation

ChatGPT doesn't always apply a connector automatically. If ChatGPT answers from general knowledge instead of your meeting data, check the connector is switched on for that specific conversation, then ask again.

Approving Permissions

The Tenali approval screen lists what ChatGPT will be able to read. The optional permissions are ticked by default — untick any you'd rather withhold. The two required ones are always granted and can't be removed:

• Meeting summaries — required.
• Question Intelligence — required.
• Knowledge base content — optional.
• Raw meeting transcripts & recording playback — optional.
• All meetings across your organization — admins only, when your workspace allows it.

Troubleshooting

• No option to add a remote MCP server — developer mode isn't on, or you're a member rather than an admin. See step 2.
• "Connection request expired" — the sign-in handshake lasts ten minutes. Start the connection again from ChatGPT.
• The AI Assistants tab isn't in Tenali — the MCP server is enabled per workspace. Contact your Tenali admin or security@tenali.ai.
• ChatGPT ignores the connector — make sure it's enabled for the current conversation, and phrase the question so it's clearly about your meetings.
